Bothell's Past
Native Americans of the Sammamish tribe lived in what is now Bothell real estate prior to white settlers descending upon the land in 1870.  Eight families inhabited the new settlement when commercial logging began in the area in 1876.  In 1885, Pennsylvanian David Bothell bought up 80 acres and, thus, the town of Bothell was named.  It was incorporated in 1909.

The local area logging operations brought many people and boat traffic to Bothell real estate, causing an increase in the town's population and economy.  This caught the attention of the Army Corps of Engineers, who decided to dredge the river and straighten it to allow for easier flow of boat traffic.  However, by 1917, Lake Washington had been lowered too much for boats to maneuver easily, bringing an abrupt halt to any water transportation.  This also caused the local logging industry to decline heavily.  Farming then became the mainstay in Bothell's economy.

After World War II, Bothell real estate became a bedroom community due to its desirable location near Seattle jobs, creating a dramatic increase in the local residential population.  With more people in the city, more businesses were necessary to sustain the population.  By the 1990s, the development of high tech businesses, such as software development and biotechnology, made Bothell more than just a bedroom community.  The University of Washington opened a campus in Bothell in 2000 at Cascadia Community College.

Bothell's High Tech Economy
Until the end of the 20th century, Bothell real estate was known more as a bedroom community.  By the 1990s, that changed.  Currently, biotechnology is Bothell's main industry, with companies like Seattle Genetics Incorporated, Nastech, Sonus Pharmaceuticals, Amgen and Celltech operating within Bothell's city limits.  Additionally, computer technology and telecommunications companies, such as Cingular Wireless, T-Mobile, Kinesis and Panasonic Avionics, have found Bothell to be an inviting place to conduct business.  Several electrical, environmental and civil engineering firms, Neah Power Systems and even the Seattle Times' main production facility operate in Bothell real estate, making Bothell a high tech mecca of sorts.

Bothell's School System
Bothell's educational needs are served by the Northshore School District as well as by several excellent private schools.  There are 11 elementary schools, three junior high schools, on high school, one Secondary Academy for Success (an alternative high school), one special services school (Project Hope) and one home school network operating within Bothell real estate under Northshore's guidance.  Additionally, there are seven wonderful private schools to choose from for parents wishing an alternative to public school education in Bothell.  The University of Wasington established a branch campus in Bothell in 2000.
